I may be being a bit dense here but which client software can I use to
submit data? I looked through the list of linux clients but couldn't
see an obvious candidate.

I get a daily log emailed from my Netgear DG834 router in the format:
Sun, 2009-02-08 16:13:37 - UDP Packet - Source:83.200.10.168,8345
Destination:XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX,24015 - [DOS]
Sun, 2009-02-08 16:13:37 - UDP Packet - Source:79.84.162.186,1345
Destination:XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX,24015 - [DOS]
