unisog -- UNIversity Security Operations Group

About unisog
English (USA)

The unisog mailing list is intended for university and other academic institution system operators to discuss security issues specific to the academic environment.

General Guidelines
List discussion should revolve around technical topics in educational security operations. The list is open to the public for both reading and posting. Discussion between participants on the list should be done in a courteous and professional manner. Use of this list to promote specific commercial vendors, products or services is not appropriate. To help promote coordination, communication and trust within and outside the list, participants should identity their real name and institution affiliation in their list postings.

List Moderation
The unisog mailing list is moderated. That is, one or more list administrators must manually approve a message submitted to the list before it is delivered to participants. While there can occasionally be significant delays and moderation makes the list less useful for critical, real-time messages, posts should generally appear on the list within a few hours of submission.

Meet the Moderators
The unisog list currently has four volunteer moderators. Each moderator tends to be well separated geographically from the others in order to help improve moderation coverage hours throughout all time zones. The current list of moderators include:

  • Phil Deneault, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, (Worcester, MA, United States)
  • Peter Van Epp, Simon Fraser University, (Vancover, Canada)
  • Russell Fulton, Auckland University (Auckland, New Zealand)
  • John Kristoff, DePaul University and Northwestern University (Chicago, United States)

To send a message just to the list moderators, send email to unisog-owner [ at ] lists.sans.org

Former moderators of unisog: Larry E. Lidz (1999-2004), Andreas Östling (2004-2006).

Additional Information
While the unisog mailing list is hosted by SANS.org, unisog is just a mailing list. unisog has no formal membership and is not specific to any particular country or region. If unisog is a community, it is a self organizing and operating one, independent from any parent oversight and coordination.
