I found a great place to get Tee Shirts with the Benjamin Franklin qoute" They
that can give up liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither
liberty nor safety" Here's a link to a view of the T-shirt.

And this is were they are selling them. Number 7: the Crypto Globe shirt
Probably not the only place on the internet selling them. But it is were I got
mine.

I heard there is a rumor going around that at a company that might be named
verisun, one of there customers that may have had repeated outages. And had
called a number of times got a hold of a Tech that may have said (The new
software that is being installed to moniter DSL is buggy and is
causing the outages.) Some new law about taping DSL. The strange thing is
that that customer may have contacted the ISP a week later after another
outage to ask them if they
could do anything about a DDOS attack.

The tech support advised to try a direct DSL connection through the modem.
With out asking if there was even a software firewall running.
The client tried the connection and found that within 6 seconds there were
attempts to connect to port 137 138 139 and 445 I think. How odd!
Thank goodness the client had the fore sight to be running a software
firewall.
The client may have said that the connection was not adequate. Then the Tech
may have said that they are only responsible for getting a connection. And
when
asked what he thought may have been trying to connect on those ports. That he
had no idea !
When asked again about DDOS. The responce may have been. I dont know what
a DDOS is. When told what a DDOS attack is.
His responce may have been we are only responsible for getting a connection.
When asked his name only a first name was given.
When asked his last name a responce of we cant give out our last names.
So after having to ask twice for his supervisor, and a fifteen minute wait.
A supervisor?
That sounded amazingly like the first tech got on the line.
That also had no idea what DDOS attack is.
And the we are only responsible for getting a connection, thing.
And the we cant do anything thing! Well does'nt that give you a warm fuzzy
protected feeling? I dont know what software they are using to protect us. :)
I hope it does'nt have anything to do with the big contract with homeland
defense. Last year.
I would feel a lot safer with NIX software protecting me!
Any ways the names were removed to protect the innocent. I hope you enjoyed
this little story. And by all means do not report about internet outages!
Then again as Bob Dylan so aptly put it .
(You do'nt need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows).

Please do'nt print this on the web site.
