[Dshield] Forensic Analysis Practical

The various SANS forums have been very busy talking about this issue. Many
MANY people have suggested exactly what Joel suggests. I'm thinking that
something along those lines will happen...SANS can't just ignore their
customers and in the final analysis this *IS* a business decision.

Stephen and Lara have been very upfront and honest with the Advisory Boards.
Lots of brainstorming going on resulting in alot of really great ideas. The
changes to the exams and curriculum isn't going to happen over night but
discussions are underway and I believe the end result will maintain the
Sans/GIAC "topdog" status in the InfoSec world.

I was very much against the idea of dropping the practicals. I suspect the
reason for dropping them was because they became more of a writing exercise
than a technical exercise particularly for the GSEC. An 8 page paper on a
topic of your choice is a High School Lit assignment...not necessarilly
adequate for what SANS wanted the GSEC to represent.

Keep an eye on the SANS site for information as it happens....the times they
be a changin'.

I think a "with-practical" and "without-practical" certification should
be offered. (and it should be listed as such on the website and on
the certificate.) For those that would like to attempt to reach the
prestige of being certified w/ practical, they may do so.
