We have a drive that was part of a RAID array that failed and we need to
send it back to HP to not be charged for the replacement. In the past we
would just have sent it, but now we're wondering how safe it is to return a
failed drive. this one was part of a RAID 1 array so it's theoretically
readable if it spins up for a bit. Would a single drive from a RAID 5 array
have recoverable data?
Since the drives have failed, I don't expect to see them on Ebay, but we are
concerned about the risk.
